Doing Business with Expo 2020 Dubai
A gateway to the world’s emerging markets
Imagine many of the world’s biggest companies and the most dynamic economies coming together to collaborate in one place, for six months, at the crossroads of the world.
As the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Expo 2020 Dubai will give participants an unrivalled opportunity to access a region of more than 3.2 billion people, with a collective GDP of more than USD 6.5 trillion.
Taking place in the UAE, Expo 2020 Dubai will be at the centre of it all as the most international World Expo in history.
Two-thirds of the world’s population are just eight hours from one of the UAE’s five major airports, with connecting flights to more than 300 cities in 100 countries. It also hosts the largest maritime terminal in the Middle East, and the second fastest growing port in the world.
The UAE’s role as a leading international business hub will bring participants and businesses closer to the world’s fastest emerging markets with Africa’s booming commercial sector, India’s growing consumer class, and China’s established industries and New Silk Road all within easy reach.
No wonder the UAE is ranked first in MENA for enabling international trade.
As part of Expo 2020, you will have access to this invaluable platform for fostering international relationships, creating new business opportunities and capitalising on the full potential of the youngest global population in history.
It’s no wonder why world class companies from across the globe – including powerhouses such as Emirates Airline, Accenture, DP World, Emirates NBD, Nissan, SAP, Siemens and UPS – have already signed up as partners in the journey to Expo 2020 Dubai.
They will be joined by more than 200 international participants, including 180 countries, corporations, non-government organisations and educational institutions. About 70 percent of the 25 million expected visits will be from outside the UAE, the largest proportion of any World Expo.
In the true spirit of Expo 2020’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,’ collaboration will help to accelerate progress in industries of the future and inspire breakthroughs in Expo’s subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
Expo 2020 Dubai is not only an opportunity to showcase progress but a global destination to harness the incredible potential of emerging markets, made possible by the UAE leadership’s strategies to ensure businesses thrive, no matter where they come from.
Each edition in the series focuses on a specific aspect of Expo 2020 Dubai and is in the format of an open dialogue. To date, Business Connect has brought together senior representatives from more than 1,300 businesses covering a wide spectrum of industries to explore critical areas such as marketing and communications, ICT, architecture and design, real estate and youth.
These sessions are not only a valuable opportunity to explore potential areas of partnership and collaboration, but also a chance for us to articulate our organisational values and objectives. These are headed by Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future' and our subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
Small & Medium Enterprises (SMES)
In 2016, it was announced that 20% of Expo 2020 Dubai’s total direct and indirect spend, representing more than AED 5 billion in contracts, will be allocated to SMEs, both local and international. Our dialogue with the SME community has also contributed to a number of important modifications that will continue to ease the procurement process for SMEs and enable them to bid competitively.
Our focus on SMEs also complements the UAE’s drive towards a thriving private sector and diversified economy by stimulating employment, strengthening existing industries, improving SME competitiveness and contributing to sustainable economic growth. This will be an important part of our Expo’s legacy
Opportunities taken to market, relating to both goods and services, will be announced through this platform. And, as we continue to sign up the 200+ participants for Expo, they too will be able to use the portal to tender their requirements, offering registered vendors access to a much larger market and even greater range of opportunities. It is also an important platform for us to inform you of any relevant news or upcoming events.
By the end of December 2016, over 12,000 businesses from more than 120 countries had registered on the portal. Of these, nearly 8,000 were SMEs, underscoring our commitment to empowering small businesses and start-ups.
