Expo 2020 Dubai is not waiting until 2020 to showcase the latest in innovation. We are doing it now, becoming the first major commercial customer to access 5G services in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.
Through our partnership with Etisalat, Expo 2020 is leading the way in the new era of digital connectivity. This significant achievement also reinforces the reputations of the UAE and Dubai as leaders in innovation.
As demonstrated at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, 5G is about 20 times faster than 4G and with virtually no latency (delay), as well as ultra-low energy requirements. The 5G network will be the backbone of our ‘smart site’, providing the most advanced digital experiences for millions of visitors and hundreds of participants.
This could include smart tickets, tech-enabled volunteers, smart food ordering, dynamic crowd management, and so much more.
Expo 2020’s early access to 5G services also means our partners, including SMEs, can access the most advanced digital network to test their next-generation products and services. 5G has applications for autonomous driving, networking vehicles, industrial automation and IoT, among other things. These are also key topics for Expo 2020 and having early access to 5G services ensures we can be at the forefront of showcasing these innovations, in collaboration with our partners.
The 5G network will also help attract top-tier multinational companies to District 2020, the mixed-use development that will carry on Expo’s legacy as a place to Connect, Create and Innovate.
Our partnership with Etisalat to ensure Expo 2020 is the first to access 5G services has brought to life our theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ more than two years before Expo opens in October 2020.
