    Workers - Expo 2020 Dubai
    calendar 4 Jun 2019

    Expo to reward workers’ eco-efforts

The initiative will advance sustainability knowhow among the 30,000-strong workforce onsite

Spot prizes including mobile phone cards and certificates will be awarded to workers on the Expo 2020 Dubai site for remaining eco-conscious during their daily duties.

Part of Expo’s Environment Week from 9 to 13 June, the initiative supports World Environment Day on 5 June – held this year under the theme of ‘Beat Air Pollution’ – and also aligns with Expo 2020’s Sustainability subtheme.

Expo 2020’s construction workforce, which currently stands at 30,000 workers, will watch a series of animated videos sharing practical tips on how to follow eco-friendly practices relating to air pollution, flora and fauna, emissions prevention, and management of waste and water.

‘Visual impact’ sessions will see environmental scenarios acted out to increase awareness, and World Environment Day posters will be displayed throughout the Expo site and offices to further raise visibility of the day and its theme.

A wider message will also be shared that protecting the environment is a crucial and long-term concern. This extends to wildlife discovered on the 4.38 sq. km Expo site – with a spiny-tailed lizard and Arabian sand boa snake the latest animals to be safely relocated as part of construction efforts.

Expo 2020 Dubai aspires to deliver one of the most sustainable World Expos ever – creating positive environmental impacts on a national, regional and global scale.
