UK Pavilion promises the ‘best of British’

Work has started on the structure, which will be inspired by artificial intelligence and highlight the UK’s ambitions for the future

The UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will “bring the best of British creativity, innovation and expertise to the world”, the country’s International Trade Secretary has promised.

Dr Liam Fox MP visited the Expo 2020 site for the pavilion’s groundbreaking ceremony, where he was warmly welcomed by Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General, Expo 2020 Dubai.

Dr Fox said: “The Expo provides a global platform to showcase our ambition for the future, and our participation provides excellent opportunities for UK businesses.”

Designed by renowned British artist Es Devlin, the two-storey structure in Expo’s Opportunity District will measure more than 3,400 sqm and explore the theme ‘Innovating for a Shared Future’.

Featuring an illuminated, ever-changing poem on its exterior, the pavilion will promote the UK as a world-class destination for trade, investment, education and tourism, and highlight the nation’s expertise in artificial intelligence and the space sector.

During his visit, Dr Fox also announced that global brand activation company Pico and British construction firm McLaren would help bring the pavilion to life.

The UK will celebrate Expo 2020’s ‘One Year to Go’ milestone on 20 October by revealing further details about the pavilion’s events programme, its visitor experience, and its catering and hospitality offering.
