    Managing the movement of millions

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will ensure a pleasant journey for the hundreds of thousands of Expo 2020’s daily visitors.

They’ll come via planes, trains and automobiles – and ensuring the smooth movement of the millions of people expected to flock to Expo 2020 Dubai has required the full engagement of a host of city functions, not least Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

With between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors expected to visit Expo each day, the RTA has put in place a city-wide plan which includes Route 2020 – a 15km extension of Dubai Metro’s Red Line with a capacity of 44,000 passengers per day in both directions. Route 2020 will be fully operational before the next World Expo opens in October 2020, as will an additional 724 low-emission buses that will connect Expo 2020 to key locations in Dubai and other emirates.

For those visitors travelling by car, the RTA has invested more than AED 3 billion in developing the city’s road network, including widening many routes leading to the Expo site in Dubai South, and upgrading Airport Road to make room for an expected rise in air travellers to 95 million by 2020.

Once at Expo 2020, visitors will be able to park in one of 30,000 spaces, and the RTA and Expo will deploy state-of-the-art smart technology to monitor and manage the flow of vehicles and people to, from and within the Expo 2020 site.

Over the six months of the event, Expo 2020 expects to attract 25 million visits with around 70 per cent of visitors coming from outside the UAE.
