Is your project helping communities respond to the pandemic?

Expo’s Global Best Practice Programme invites proposals to showcase projects already assisting in COVID-19 response

Expo 2020 Dubai is inviting projects helping communities respond to the impact of the global pandemic to submit proposals to its Global Best Practice Programme.

Selected projects will be showcased at Expo 2020 as part of its mission to recognise and promote simple and impactful innovations that are addressing humanity’s most pressing challenges.

The call is open to governments, NGOs, international organisations, educational institutions, public-private partnerships and social entrepreneurs. It invites proposals demonstrating success toward building a ‘better normal’ through short- and long-term integrated solutions that can be adapted, replicated and scaled globally.

The programme will highlight selected projects in five priority areas: Health and wellbeing; water, sanitation and hygiene; education and skills development; protecting livelihoods; and digitalisation.

Applications will be reviewed by a jury composed of members from the United Nations, Dubai Cares, and Cisco, Expo 2020’s Official Digital Network Partner. Selected projects will then join the Global Best Practice Programme’s existing cohort of 45 projects that will help inspire collective action towards a brighter future.

Proposals to the initiative can be submitted until 31 December 2020 using the online application form. The selected best practices will be announced in the first half of 2021.

Launched in 2018, Expo’s Global Best Practice Programme highlights the importance of bringing together creative minds to develop innovative solutions and is an integral part of Expo 2020’s commitment to encouraging positive change through cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Expo 2020’s programming, including themed weeks and international day events, will highlight issues such as climate change, health and wellness, inequality and environmental degradation, encouraging conversation and action towards helping achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, Expo 2020 will run for six months from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022. The event will coincide with the 50-year anniversary of the founding of the UAE, and highlight the country’s role as a global connecting hub for people, ideas, and innovation.
