Largest World Government Summit yet will serve as Expo 2020’s ‘intellectual hub’

Expected to welcome 100,000 participants, the summit’s seventh edition will provide an unprecedented platform to explore challenges and opportunities and share expertise

The next edition of the World Government Summit (WGS) will be held at Expo 2020 Dubai and represent the “intellectual hub” of the first World Expo ever held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the summit, which will take place from 22 to 25 November 2020.

Inaugurated in 2013, the WGS is a global platform dedicated to shaping the future of governments worldwide. Next year’s four-day event is expected to be the largest yet – welcoming 30 international organisations, 600 experts, 10,000 high-profile officials and 100,000 participants to Expo 2020.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “The World Government Summit will represent the intellectual hub of Expo 2020 Dubai. Our aim is to organise a full-scale global event.

“Combining the WGS and Expo 2020 Dubai establishes a pioneering edition of the World Expo that will connect the past, present and future of nations. 2020 will be the year of unifying efforts towards cementing the UAE’s new global status.”

The WGS will enable attendees to share expertise when it comes to implementing best government practices worldwide, as well as exploring the role of technology in shaping the future of governments.

It will also aim to share the UAE’s success story as an incubator of tolerance, diversity and coexistence, and strengthen international cooperation to face the global economic challenges of tomorrow together.

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General, Expo 2020 Dubai, said, “Expo 2020 cements Dubai’s fundamental role in shaping the future through advancing international cooperation in supporting development and creating sustainable solutions for future challenges.

“Dubai represents a global hub for connecting minds and exchanging ideas and knowledge, eventually becoming a major destination for mega events.”

Taking place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, Expo 2020 will welcome 192 nations and millions of visitors to the UAE for a one-of-a-kind celebration of culture, tech, entertainment, trade, innovation and much more.
