University students from across the UAE will have the opportunity to forge new connections and acquire real-life knowledge thanks to a series of specially-curated educational tours of Expo 2020 Dubai.
Immersing students in the heart of the six-month Expo 2020, the Expo University Visit Programme – designed to facilitate connections with peers, industry leaders and global experts – will invite all 140,000 students studying full-time at the UAE’s universities.
The scheme will offer students the opportunity to explore some of the site’s most iconic structures, take part in hands-on workshops, network with peers from around the world, and learn from industry experts behind Expo 2020 – the largest event ever to be held in the Arab world.
It was launched last week at the University Leadership Forum, held in Expo 2020’s Opportunity District and attended by more than 80 senior leadership executives from the UAE’s public and private universities and regulators, Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).
Professor Nihel Chabrak, Director of the UAE University Pavilion at Expo 2020, said: “The Expo University Programme is a unique opportunity to connect minds by offering to thousands of students an immersive experience with avant-gardists in a six month period event. During the University Leadership Forum, we also had the opportunity to discuss how to converge the outcomes from this programme with the curriculum and how to make the programme even more attractive to students.”
Dr Nabyl Chenaf, Dean of the School of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University in Dubai (AUD) added: “The Expo 2020 University Leadership Forum was an opportunity for the AUD delegation to witness history in the making. My first reaction once back at AUD was to encourage every single student to be part of it, as those 173 days will mark their lives forever.”
Visits under the programme are one of several initiatives designed to ensure youth are at the heart of Expo 2020. UAE University will also have its own pavilion at Expo 2020 centered around its ‘University of the Future’ initiative which aims to revolutionise the provision of tertiary education in the Arab World by 2030.
Manal AlBayat, Chief Community Engagement Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai, concluded: “With 192 countries in one location, each showing the very best that they have to offer, the educational tours will help fuel students’ curiosities, spark new ideas, encourage new connections, and inspire our youth to become the leaders and change makers of the future.”
