The incredible behind-the-scenes global logistics operation that supports the world’s greatest show has witnessed a major milestone with the opening of the Expo 2020 Dubai South warehouse.
The warehouse will provide Expo 2020 and its Official Logistics Partner, UPS, a flexible solution for storage and distribution across 14,000 sqm of vital operational infrastructure, with space for 200 staff, including office workers, drivers and warehouse crew.
Its storage capabilities will feature the likes of furniture, fixtures and equipment, goods for exhibitors, ceremony items and a host of surprises for Expo visitors – ranging from micro-millimetre precision equipment, to huge exhibition items. It includes more than 1,700 sqm of office space and more than 1,700 sqm of deck level storage.
UPS will provide, staff and vehicles – from vans and trucks, to forklifts and other material-handling equipment. The operation will support more than 100 participants in shipping goods from across the world to the warehouse, before they are showcased at Expo 2020 when it opens from 20 October 2020.
In the past two years, the logistics operation has included managing global shipments such as Al Wasl
dome’s towering trellis structure, the entrance portals as well as thousands of footballs as part of a campaign featuring Expo 2020 Dubai global ambassador Lionel Messi
Other crucial elements of the huge ongoing logistics undertaking include the Expo 2020 Delivery Management System, which has already managed more than 500,000 delivery bookings, while the vast underground areas beneath the Expo site will give 24/7 access for deliveries during event time.
