HH Sheikh Mohammed: UAE will build on China 2010 to host ‘best Expo in the world’

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai praises China relations and promises a unique Expo 2020 Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai has reiterated his promise that Expo 2020 Dubai will be the best World Expo ever, building on the ‘perfect example’ of Shanghai 2010.

In an interview with China’s state TV broadcaster CCTV, His Highness said: “We have promised the world that Expo 2020 Dubai will be the best in the world, with many surprises in store. I invite you and the people of China to visit Expo 2020 in Dubai.”

His Highness applauded strong relations between the two countries and praised Chinese President Xi Jinping and his signature Silk Road initiative – a visionary mega project for global economic cooperation, also known as the Belt and Road Initiative, that will link China with South-East, South and Central Asia, the Arabian Gulf, North Africa and then Europe.

“The Silk Road is highly important for the UAE and we have allocated USD 3 billion to contribute to this mega project. The Chinese President has revived the Silk Road, which connects the west with the east and vice versa,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“The UAE was the first to support the Silk Road project. We manage 77 ports around the world, and this project is important to us. Investing in it will bring benefits to everyone,” he added.

China recently began construction on its lantern-shaped pavilion, which will be among the largest at the six-month World Expo.

It will bring to life more than 5,000 years of Chinese culture, from the advent of paper, gunpowder and the compass, to future-shaping technologies including the Belt and Road Initiative, 5G, autonomous vehicles, and a radio satellite capable of detecting signs of extra-terrestrial life.
