Russia sets its sights high for towering pavilion at Expo 2020 groundbreaking

Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, led the groundbreaking ceremony of the 27-metre-tall Russia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

Continuing a proud history of World Expo participation since it took part in the very first edition in 1851, Russia has begun the construction of its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai – and the results are set to be an architectural and cultural highlight of the mega-event.

A delegation led by Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, officially broke ground on the country’s pavilion, which will tower at 27 metres tall and cover an area of more than 4,500 sqm.

Russia won a gold medal for its exhibition design at Expo 2017 Astana, and Mr Manturov said that his country “in no way intends to lower” that “high bar”, promising the use of latest technologies in the pavilion construction.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, attended by a number of dignitaries from Expo 2020 and the UAE, Mr Manturov explained that visitors to the pavilion would be able to experience Russian culture, innovation and creativity, as well as the country’s famous hospitality.

The Russia Pavilion, designed by the architects Tchoban SPEECH and Simpateka Entertainment Group, will showcase the country’s extensive knowledge in a variety of fields, and promises to take visitors to “the next level”, where they will experience the possibilities of tomorrow.

Russia will be one of 192 countries participating at the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, which runs for six months from its opening on 20 October 2020.
