UAE cultural organisations to work together for the first time under Expo 2020 umbrella to support countrywide creative talent

A line-up of leading UAE-based cultural organisations have been brought together for the first time by Expo 2020 Dubai’s Design and Crafts Programme.

These renowned organisations teaming up with Expo 2020 and working together for the first time, under the umbrella of The World’s Greatest Show and human brilliance and achievement, will be promoting and supporting design and crafts both at home and abroad.

These organisations include: Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development; Ataya, a charity exhibition organised by the Emirates Red Crescent; the Fatima Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed Initiative; 1971 Design Space, an initiative by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority; art and design centre Warehouse421; Alserkal Cultural Foundation; and Sharjah-based Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council.

Dr Hayat Shamsuddin, Senior Vice President - Arts and Culture, Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Working with these reputable organisations will enhance Expo 2020’s Design and Crafts Programme’s aim to encourage and empower the exchange of expertise and ideas, as well as develop crafts and exhibit products to millions of visitors to Expo 2020.

“This initiative will provide an exceptional and unprecedented opportunity for the UAE’s design and craft community to present itself to the world. It will help place local talents on the world map as well as strengthen their presence in the UAE.”

Fatma Al Mahmoud, Director, 1971 Design Space, said: “We are really excited to be working with Expo 2020, so that we can showcase contemporary works by our UAE and regionally-based designers to a global audience.”
