    Infectious optimism as Indonesia Pavilion kicks into gear

    Work starts on three-storey building in Expo 2020’s Opportunity District

    Praising the power of Expo 2020 in boosting Indonesia as an international brand, the country’s Commissioner General has said its country pavilion at the 173-day show is a ‘long-term investment’ in the archipelago nation’s future.

    Welcomed by Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director, Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, Dody Edward visited the Expo 2020 site for the pavilion’s ground-breaking ceremony.

    His Excellency Hussain Bagis, Indonesia’s Ambassador to the UAE, and His Excellency Triawan Munaf, Chairman of Indonesia’s Creative Economy Agency, were also part of the 60-strong delegation that attended a ceremony on-site to officially kick-off construction of Indonesia’s country pavilion, located in Expo 2020’s Opportunity District.

    Edward said: “For Indonesia, participation in Expo 2020 is a long term investment. We are convinced that strong nation branding has an impact in terms of the country’s soft power. That is to say: what makes a tourist travel to our country, a buyer buy a product made in Indonesia or an investor to invest?”

    He also noted that Indonesia’s Expo 2020 presence would represent an opportunity for the country to “access distant regions and continents in a cost- and time-effective way”.

    Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, added: “With its self-built country pavilion at Expo 2020, Indonesia can further build on its rich history with the UAE – historically forged through trade, commerce, diplomatic relations, and a shared culture and heritage.

    “The Indonesia Pavilion will be an invaluable addition to Expo 2020’s Opportunity District, offering our expected 25 million visits a first-hand glimpse into the very best innovations that this archipelago nation offers in unlocking the potential for individuals and communities to shape the future.”

    Located in Expo 2020’s Opportunity District, Indonesia’s three-storey pavilion will strongly feature the concept of Golden Indonesia 2045 – the country’s ambitious path to become one of the five world economic giants by 2045.
